Three Kings' Day Parade
On Tuesday,
January 6th 2004, El Museo del Barrio offers local residents
and all of New York City its 27th Annual Three Kings' Day
Celebration. This holiday is the most festive of the Nativity
Season in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Latin America. It is
a time to rejoice with family, friends and community in the
spirit of giving and renewal by enjoying time honored
traditions, lively music, festive costumes, lights, and good
food. El Museo's celebration is multifaceted with a dynamic
parade led by the Three Kings through the streets of El Barrio
(East Harlem). Please join local residents, the general
public, New York City school children and their teachers in
this special celebration. All are invited to join the
celebration alongside the Three Kings, camels, sheep, horses,
tall puppets, and inspirational music makers. Advance
registration is REQUIRED for group participation of the parade
and theater program. Please contact: 212-660-7144 or ThreeKings@elmuseo.org.
In response to the growing enthusiasm and interest in
participating in El Museo del Barrio's 27th Annual Three Kings
Day Parade, El Museo has enhanced its celebration. On January
6th, 2004, in our Teatro Heckscher, The Legend of the Three
Wise Kings and the Bright Star, will be presented free of
charge to participating organizations and school groups. There
will be a Tech Rehearsal open to the general public on Sunday,
January 4th, 2003, at 2pm.
This
musical pageant illustrates a contemporary take on the legend
of the Three Kings and their journey to Bethlehem. This
presentation re-tells the story of the Three Wise Men as it
has been celebrated in the Caribbean for centuries.
Choreographed by Sandra Rivera, the performance will include
dancers, musicians, and storytellers; accompanied by musician
Quique Santiago and friends. Join us in this festive
celebration.
It is important that groups arrive
early, at 9:00 am to REGISTER and receive a position in the
parade line up. Those schools/organizations that have
registered with tickets will be offered an earlier position in
the parade line-up and in the theater procession. Those groups
that arrive for registration on the day of the parade will be
lined up immediately after pre-registered groups. However, it
is important to arrive early to guarantee your group's
position in the line-up.
The Three Kings Day Parade
starts at 10am from the corner of 106th Street and 5th Ave,
will follow the traditional parade route, (please see map) and
will terminate at 106th Street and 5th at 11:30am. Please be
advised that the parade route may be re-routed on the day of
the parade in the event of inclement weather.
We greatly appreciate your
cooperation. We look forward to celebrating this festive
holiday with you and your students.
