SPECIAL MONOGRAPHIC ISSUES:

Nueva Narrativa Latinoamericana
New Latin American Narrative

OPEN

Invited Editor:

Dr. Oswaldo Estrada
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

This monographic issue seeks to establish a critical dialogue on the new Latin American narrative, mainly produced by writers born after 1960. Even when generational categories are subjective, selective and incomplete—as can be seen in the often-cited anthology Palabra de América (2004)— writers from McOndo and the Crack generation (or even those who distance themselves from any of these movements) challenge our interpretation of a Latin American literature that sets itself apart from the boom and the post-boom. Therefore, for this issue we will consider articles that analyze this generation as a whole, or monographic studies on writers such as Jorge Volpi, Rodrigo Fresán, Cristina Rivera Garza, Edmundo Paz Soldán, Mario Bellatin, Santiago Roncagliolo, Xavier Velasco, Alberto Fuguet, Rosa Beltrán, Mayra Santos Febres, Zoé Jiménez Corretjer or Pedro Antonio Valdez, among others. Studies pertaining the Generation of the Eighties in Puerto Rico will be considered.  We will also consider articles that analyze the conflicts or affinities of these new generations with the previous ones, or with honorary members, such as Roberto Bolaño. Articles should be 15-20 pages long, doble spaced, following the MLA style format. These may be submitted until May 1st, 2009, and they should be sent directly to the editor of this special issue, via e-mail or regular mail:

Growth and Transformation of Hispanic Studies in the United States

OPEN

The International Journal of Humanistic Studies, a printed peer-reviewed journal from the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao, seeks to encourage a productive dialogue between humanistic scholars working in the diverse field of Hispanic Studies in the United States. We intend to expose a contemporary landscape of debates and approaches that could reflect the evolution, discontinuity, rupture, and/or transformation of Hispanic studies and the role and impact of socio-linguistic codes in the representation of Hispanic culture in the United States, as well as their relation to the nature of the diverse ideologies from which these theoretical arguments emerge. We are interested in critical essays that reflect this discussion from different analytical, historical and/or interpretative approaches. We welcome proposals focused in topics of literature, theater, music, history, historiography, philosophy, architecture, visual arts, cinema, new technologies, etc.

Papers should be 12-15 pages long in MLA format with notes at the end of the paper followed by the list of works cited. In addition to the title and a 300 word abstract (in both English and Spanish), please include your mailing address, phone number, institutional affiliation and e-mail address. Papers will be accepted in either Spanish or English. Please submit articles electronically in Word format by May 30, 2009 to:
