Students who are to participate in The Ronald E. McNair Program must meet the following criteria: 

• Must demonstrate interest in pursuing a Ph.D.

• Must be of first generation and receive Federal (PELL) or Legislative (LEG) Aid or be from an underrepresented minority group

• Must have a 3.33 GPA or higher

• Must be in the third or fourth year of undergraduate school

• Must be willing to carry out research

• Must be recommended by two members of the UPRH faculty

• Must be willing to participate in all McNair activities (Seminars, colloquiums, trainings, etc.)

• Must apply to graduate school during their Senior year

The Ronald E. McNair Program offers the following services to its members: 

• Academic Counseling
• Application to Graduate School Monitoring and Guidance
• Research Opportunities
• Workshops and Colloquiums
• Travel Stipends for Research Presentations
• Workshops (fifteen hours) on responsible research and bio-ethics in research
• Visits to Graduate Schools
• Project 1000 Guidance
• Update on research opportunities, fellowships and internships
