The Humacao University Observatory is involved in two different research
problems.
Research in Optical Astronomy involves the
study of Binary Stars. This project, sponsored by NASA's PRSGC , AMP and
MARK Programs, involves traveling once per semester to Flagstaff,
Arizona to use the NURO Telescope, property of the Lowell Observatory.,
at an altitude of 7290 feet.
This project, which is
advancing steadily, involves reporting measurements to the Washington
Double Star Catalog, where the vast majority of our data is being
published.
The students acquire the data in Arizona
and analyze it at the Humacao University Observatory.
