The
Great Orion Nebula |
 |
The
Great Orion Nebula is the show piece of our observatory. This image,
obtained on February 27, 1995 with an exposure time of 90 seconds,
presents the Orion's Nebula in full splendor. This image was obtained
using a ST4X camera at the Newtonian focus of a 5 ½ inch Celestron
Schmidt camera. The Orion Nebula is the most beautiful example of an
emission nebula, which is being heated by four stars near its center
known as the trapezium. R. Muller, J.C. Cersosimo, L. Wilkes and J.
Soto from the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao Observatory, and L.
Maura from the Astronomical Society of Puerto Rico. |

Omega Centauri, a globular cluster in the Constellation Centaurus
(NGC 5139). This cluster, in the halo of our own galaxy, harbors one
million stars. This image was obtained on May 1, 1995, with the
ST4X camera at the Newtonian focus of the 5 ½ inch Celestron Schmidt
camera. Exposure time was 40 seconds. R. Muller, L. Wilkes and J.C.
